Riyad Mahrez scooped prestigious awards in Africa football
Riyad Mahrez emerged Winner of two most prestigious awards in Africa continent football. He won BBC African Footballer and Caf Africa Player of year awards.
Algeria and Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has been honoured CAF African footballer of the year making him the first Algerian to win that award since the awards began in 1992.
The Algerian overcame 2015 Patrick-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon who won the CAF African footballer of the year award in 2015 and Sadio Mane . He received his award at Thursday’s ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria.
Mahrez also beats Andre Dede Ayew (Ghana), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast), Patrick Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon) and Sadio Mane (Senegal) to decorate his museum with BBC Africa Footballer awards.
He joins Abedi Pele, George Weah, Jay-Jay Okocha and Didier Drogba, to have won the BBC African Footballer of the year award.
Riyad Mahrez is expected to feature for Algeria in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Gabon. Algeria is in Group B and will start their campaign against Zimbabwe.
