He said, research has proven that, most of the heartbreaking accidents occurs on the Trans West Africa International roads (ie: the roads that connect the country to the neighboring countries) example is the Elubo –Yamoransa -Aflao highway, Kwame Nkrumah Circle – Nkawkaw road, Kumasi – Tamale highway.

DSP Obeng in an interview with Mr. Amoh on Nkwa 88.1 fm disclosed that a similar incident occurred in 2010 where 65 people lost their lives at Kadia between Tamale and Bolga, another 16 people lost their live at Kintampo in 2016 and last year 18 people also lost their lives at Bupala.

DSP Obeng said, all this highways are single road, so a little mistake from a driver and or any mechanical faults can cause accident.

On the way forward he said, education on road safety must be intensified, the Motor Traffic and Transport Division should intensify their checks on the road which is considered as a short and medium term and on the long term, the government should empower engineers to change Transit International roads to dual carriage(Double road).

He pleaded with his fellow Police personnel’s on the highway to act professionally by not accepting bribes from defaulted drivers.

DSP Obeng said any police personnel’s who will be caught will be dealt with as the law says.

He finally cautioned police personnel’s to desist from assaulting passengers who sometimes snap pictures of the police accepting bribes in the course of their duties. He said an officer who does that violates the right of the owner of the phone.
